Fluctra Beginner's Guide: Everything You Need to Know
June 2026 · 6 min read
Fluctra looks simple at first - a grid of coloured symbols, tap the ones that match. Within a few rounds, most players notice there's more going on: combo multipliers, power-ups, multiple modes, a daily leaderboard, a progression system that gradually turns up the pressure. This covers what you need to go from confused to actually having fun.
The Core Rule (One Sentence)
Find two or more cells that are adjacent horizontally or vertically and share both the same colour and the same shape, then tap them to clear.
That's the whole game. Everything else builds on top of that.
How to Select a Group
Two ways to select, depending on your device:
- Tap mode (mobile): Tap cells one at a time to build your selection. Tap Submit to clear the group, or tap a selected cell again to submit.
- Drag mode (desktop/tablet): Click and drag across cells to sweep-select in one motion. Release to submit. You can also tap individually on desktop if you prefer.
Every selected cell must connect to at least one other selected cell - you can't grab two matching cells on opposite sides of the board unless there's a continuous chain between them.
Understanding the Score
Points per clear = group size × combo multiplier. A few things worth knowing:
- The combo multiplier goes up each time you clear a group within roughly two seconds of the previous one. Let the timer run out and it resets to 1×.
- Higher multipliers are worth far more than large groups. A 1-cell clear at 8× combo scores more than an 8-cell clear at 1×.
- Speed matters more than group size. This is the thing most new players figure out too late.
Key insight: Experienced players often take smaller, faster clears to keep their multiplier alive rather than pausing to hunt for the biggest possible group. The combo is where scores actually come from.
Which Mode to Start With
There are four modes. For new players, the order that makes sense:
- Free Play - start here. The grid begins at 3×3 and grows gradually through 105 levels. No timer, no pressure. It teaches you how the board works at your own pace.
- Daily Challenge - once you're comfortable with the basics, play the Daily every day. Same puzzle worldwide, one attempt, global leaderboard. Adds a competitive edge once you're ready for it.
- Flux Mode - the board mutates while you play, which is disorienting early on. Come back to this once you can scan the board quickly without thinking about it.
- Battle Mode - real-time competition against other players. Fun, but demanding. Best saved until you've built solid fundamentals in Free Play.
Power-Ups: What They Do and When to Use Them
Three power-ups in the toolbar above the grid. You buy them with gems (the in-game currency you earn by playing).
- Wild (80 gems): Instantly clears the largest matching group on the board. Use it when things have fragmented and there are no obvious chains left.
- Double (150 gems): Doubles all points for 30 seconds. Best used at the start of a high-combo run - multiplying an already multiplied score is how the really big numbers happen. Don't activate it when you're struggling; you'll burn the window on isolated 1× clears.
- Reshuffle (200 gems): Replaces the entire board with new random cells. A last resort. Try Wild once or twice first - clearing the board's largest group often reveals chains you hadn't noticed.
You earn 15 gems free every 24 hours from the Shop screen. Spending those daily claims on Wilds rather than Reshuffles will stretch your gem balance much further.
Streaks and Why They Matter
Every day you play the Daily Challenge, your streak goes up by one. Miss a day and it resets. Streak counts show publicly on the leaderboard alongside scores - a 60-day streak is harder to fake than a single lucky high score, and players with long streaks are almost always improving their daily scores as a side effect of the daily practice.
The Daily takes three to five minutes. It's easy to build into a routine.
Common Beginner Mistakes
- Chasing large groups at the cost of combos. A 6-cell group that takes five seconds to spot will almost always score less than three 2-cell groups cleared in the same window.
- Ignoring the edges. Corner and edge cells are harder to include in chains and tend to block larger groups from forming. Scan them first - they're often the constraint.
- Using Reshuffle too early. Before spending 200 gems, try Wild. Clearing the largest group usually opens up options you couldn't see before.
- Not claiming the daily gem bonus. 15 gems a day is over 400 a month. Open the Shop screen before you play, every day.
One last thing: the fastest way to improve is to play the Daily Challenge every day and check your rank afterward. Seeing exactly how far you are from the next position tells you more about where to focus than any guide can.
